He picked up a pencil and began to draw before his third birthday and he hasn't stopped yet. The youngest child of Francine and Stuart, little brother, foil and sidekick of Sally and creator, author and artist of "On the Fly" Irving Pector was born at Jamaica Hospital in New York on August 24 1973. Growing up a bus ride from Jamaica in the Queens County Community of Laurelton before spending his teen years in the small long island suburb of Plainview, Irving was exposed to a rich and diverse sampling of cultures, classes and life styles. As Irving continued to grow, his definition of family would change drastically. The divorce of his parents paved the way to a very special bond with an assortment of unlikely personalities that formed his close knit extended family. It was the strength and encouragement of that family that helped the young boy mature as a person and an artist. All the while Irving applied his talents to the development of a wide range of characters and stories in his own self published line of comic books. The decision seemed as logical at the time as it was pricey for Irving to attend college at an art school founded by cartoonists in the heart of the most diverse city in the world.... The School of Visual Arts, New York City, New York. Building a strong foundation, Irving studied fine arts -drawing, painting and scultpure, commercial arts -cartooning, illustration, design and photography as well as academics like psychology, literature, art history, writing, art education and participated in student teaching. In June of 1996, Irving was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. It is the blend of every bit of all of the above that gave Irving the perspecitve and inspiration to create, assemble and develop the cast of On the Fly. |
